Kulvinder Singh Rayit, Beko plc

When I started working as a part time demonstrator for hp in Currys, I never thought I would still be retail 2 decades later. As I got more experienced in the role more responsibility I was given. After only 6 weeks I was offered a full-time position which I jumped. I had come to the realisation that I had a passion for engagement with customers and colleagues. Like most trainers in our industry I fell into the role accidently but over the years the fire in my belly grew and my passion even more. I can honestly say I was born to do what I do. Going from a demonstrator to working for the UK’s NO.1 Large Appliance company..Beko Plc! I have been part of an award winning training team for 7 years and have shared that accolade with them but never thought about nominating myself for the stand alone trainer award……..here it is!

Last year I was given the opportunity to Solely look after the training at the Fort Dunlop facility for Dixons Carphone. Between November 2019 and March 2020, we had over 800 colleagues attend Beko trainings with some great feedback been given. This was included in my other duties of delivering trainings across the Midlands, North Wales and Staffordshire. Which include all my Currys, CIH, Magnet, B&Q and JLP visits.

This year has been a strange but rewarding year. We stopped visiting stores in March 2020 the face to face contact came to end and the new norm started to unfold. Even through this weird time I had already decided that I need to lift the game and make sure that we have interesting and engaging training even if it is virtually. I have enhanced my content creation skills and have even been editing Video sessions for Currys for virtual engagement. I was solely responsible for training a team of demonstrators that were going to go into store pre pandemic but would be utilised after the first lock down finished.  As I had trained many of the demonstrators previously, they already knew I had a great way of delivering the messages that would be needed. The team expanded from 7 to 15 and were multi branded (Beko, Grundig and Leisure). The feedback was excellent, and this has been attached on the supporting information document along with other feedback. I also am in involved in setting up an LMS platform for Beko PLC we are in the early stages, but we have partnered with a company which I recommended and are well on the way with content and game changing gamification modules.

I won several awards directly from Arcelik our parent company and was part of the best practice delivery for over 21 countries at the annual train the trainer event.

Finally, I would like to say that I believe I am worthy for this award for quietly over 2 decades just honing my skills and becoming the best I can be. My communication skills and engaging training sessions have become my calling card and I have gained much respect in the industry and at Beko plc. I love what I do, and I thrive on seeing the light bulb moment when training store staff. I was born to do this!
