HarvestFresh™ (GNE490IR3VPS), Beko plc

RRP: £719

Launch date: August 2020

Beko’s brand new HarvestFresh™ technology is the brand’s biggest launch of 2020. This innovative and first to market technology preserves vitamins in fruits and vegetables for longer. It’s set to revolutionise the refrigeration market and revitalise salad crisper drawers nationwide, ensuring you are truly getting the best out of your fruit and vegetables. HarvestFreshTM technology mimics the natural sunlight cycle to preserve vitamins in vegetables and fruit for up to five days after they leave the shop floor.

HarvestFreshTM technology works by using light to replicate the sun’s natural 24-hour cycle within the fridge. During the first four hours of its cycle, the crisper lights will shine blue, mimicking dawn and the first light of the day. This is then followed by two hours of green light replicating midday, and a further six hours of red light imitating the more muted tones of dusk. The drawers then turn dark for 12 hours to represent night-time. The innovative three colour technology ensures that fruit and vegetables are exposed to a similar light cycle as they would be, when still growing outdoors, in their natural environment.

Simulating the sun’s 24-hour cycle in a fridge has never been done before and has now been independently verified[1] to prove that it does indeed preserve vitamins A and C for five additional days. Sometimes overlooked, these vitamins are key for boosting the immune system, promoting a healthier heart, supporting healthy cognitive brain function and provide natural anti-oxidants to protect the body from disease. So not only will your meals taste better, they’ll offer you a whole host of health benefits too.

[1] Tested by Intertek based on the measurements of tomatoes, green peppers, carrots, spinach and celery directly exposed to the light technology compared with Day 0 conditions over a 5-day period.
